It isn’t going to be long until turkey season is upon us! With that in mind, we stopped at the Quaker Boy booth at this year’s ATA show in Columbus, Ohio! Dave Streb who is the VP of Sales and Marketing demonstrated a new turkey vest for us during an interview with him. This new vest isn’t just a vest for turkey hunting, it doubles as a guile suit for the complete concealment package while running and gunning for those big spring gobblers! Take a look at the Vest-A-Blind in the video we produced covering just one of the hot new products from the 2010 ATA show!

What a wild week for the Up North Journal Team! Turkey season is in full swing and I had the opportunity to guide a first time turkey hunter this weekend. I managed to call in not one, not two, but four toms for him to choose from. He took the double bearded tom out of the bunch! We cover that story this week along with a nice interview with the Vice President of Whitetails Institute on the basics of food plots and what they can do for the health fo the deer herd.
Mikey covers the basics of a do it yourself turkey fan taxidermy job in this week’s Mikey’s Game Bag, then I cover a few of the new crossbows we recieved to kick off our crossbow review this spring. Check out what else the Up North Journal crew has been up to this week by listening to this week’s installment of the Up North Jouranl podcast.

When you hear the names Mike and Mike one either puts the two together with the morning radio duo or you either think of the Up North Journal Podcast team. Not this time, the two Mikes I’m talking about this time does include one of the Mikes from the Up North Journal but the other one is Michael Waddell. In the newest edition of the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Xtreme Jakes magazine are articles on Michael Waddell and the youngest of the two Mike Adams from Up North Journal.
Mikey as we like to call him is featured in this quarter’s NWTF youth magazine about his outdoor experiences and how he relates them to the podcast that the Up North Journal team produces. Being that I’m his father and the one who he teams up with on the podcast I’m quite proud of this accomplishment. I was offered the opportunity to write an article about my son for the magazine along with providing photos and a video clip that we shot. To be featured in a magazine with Michael Waddell is any kids dream and it certainly surprised Mikey that he was in the same issue as the host of Bone Collectors.
Check out the latest issue by following this link to see what Mikey has accomplished as a 14 year old teenager. He has done more in the outdoors in the last couple of years than what most adults get to do. Congrats Mikey! When you get to the page (pages 2 and 3) his article is on, be sure to double click the page to zoom in so you can read the article. This is the second issue of the Xtreme Jakes magazine to be released as an E magazine or internet only magazine. It is one of the latest endeavors of the NWTF to provide their magazines to a wider audience. They also offer Turkey Call as an online magazine for the hunting community. Make sure you tell the hunting youth that you know about this new online magazine for teenagers.
A couple of weekends ago while at the ATA show in Indianapolis, I ran into Gary Reed from Dead Down Wind at a press conference. I thought that this was going to be a run of the mill talk on the same ‘ol product for 2009. Boy was I wrong! Not only does Dead Down Wind make products for the hunter who is worried about scent control, but they now make something that is for the fisherman in the outdoors. Take a quick look at the new products that Dead Down Wind is offering the outdoorsmen for the upcoming hunting and fishing seasons by clicking the video link below. To watch in high quality click on the appropriate control panel in the video player listed as “HQ”.
