Tree Stand Safety Harness
Posted by MikeAdams on October 19, 2008
Well it has happened again for the second time this year in Michigan. We lost a hunter due to falling out of a tree stand. This second hunter like the first wasn’t wearing a safety harness.
He fell out of his tree on Saturday night and wasn’t found until the next morning. It was only a week or two ago that we had a hunter in Tuscola County fall some 30 feet from a tree stand without a safety harness and died.
We hear of this time and time again each year with people falling out of their tree stands. We always say yeah, but it won’t happen to us or I’m careful, I won’t fall. I’m hear to tell you it can happen to you!
I have put off wearing a harness, and have always made my son wear a harness when he went into a tree stand. Do as I say not as I do! But for me I’m now going to go and get a harness and start wearing it. My family doesn’t deserve the torment they would go through because I was to thoughtless to put one on. So for me I’m heading to the store and purchasing a harness!
God speed to these two gentlemen who fell.

A simple safety precaution that too many hunters seem to ignore. You won’t catch me in a tree without one. Today you can get a harness that is like a zip on vest, easy to use and even with a camo pattern. There is no excuse so get one before you climb. (and it’s about time Mike! I think I’ve offered you a harness a time or two…)

I have alway used some type saftey harness and about 4 years about I bought a Hunters Saftey System vest and won’t be caught in a tree without it. Although when I am using my tree saddle to hunt out of a tree I don’t wear the vest but that is because the tree saddle itself is a saftey harness. I beg and plea with other hunters that don’t use them to please do.

The little bit of time it saves you by not wearing one is simply not worth it.
Wear your harness guys. If, for anything, at least do it for your family.
