    Trail Cameras Catching Trash Dumpers

Posted by MikeAdams on August 13, 2008

All of us that have trail cameras are getting them out into the woods to start scouting for that big buck that we all hope to take this year.  Well in one Pennsylvania town the township officials want to put their own trail cameras out this year.

They are not trying to get a shot of that big buck we all hope to see, but they are after illegal dumping culprits.  In one particular area of Hamilton Township in Hanover, PA people seem to think they can discard their unwanted items on the roadside for others to deal with.  This prompted officials to think outside the box.  They came up with a plan to look into buying trail cameras and hide them near the scene of the cirme to take photos of the individuals and their vehilcles for future prosecution.

“We will get pictures of those who are doing the dumping and pictures of their cars and license plates,” said Beard. “We want people to know that we are going to prosecute those who are doing this to the full extent of the law.”

So the next time you think about dropping that unwanted item off on the roadside in a pile where others have done the same thing, you might want to think twice before you do it.  There just might be a camo camera on a nearby tree taking your photo for all to see.

      What a great idea.

I think it is great to see trailcams used in such a manner. I know they have caught trespassers, burglars, thieves, and the like.

They are a tool-they might as well be put to work.

To bad the Michigan DNR couldn’t do that in the state game areas. I am always amazed and disgusted at the amount of garbage that I see out in the woods.

That’s an awesome idea! I hate going to my favorite fishing hole and finding out what pigs some people are! It’s so frustrating! I hope they follow through with it because it’d be interesting to see how successful it is - and if it is successful, I’d like to see other places adopt the same idea.
