Tonight I received an email with some very disturbing news in it from a good friend of mine, Bob Rich from The Bob Rich Shooting Journal in Connecticut. Below is the email he sent me.

This guy’s AR-15 malfunctioned on the range firing a couple of double bursts after firing 800 rounds without a problem. Someone reported it, his guns were all confiscated (they are all legal) and he was convicted of having a machinegun! This guy is a vet and his damn gun malfunctioned. Now he will likely go to jail. I haven’t heard the follow-up but something must be done about this. Does anyone have any more info? We need to not let this guy just disappear into prison or anyone with a malfunctioning 10/22 could be next! This is government out of control, and this is why we have a 2nd amendment

Please call or write your representatives on this issue and this bill, ask for their support for this gentleman who has been falsely accused and ask for their support on HR 1791.
It sounds like some anti was snooping at the range and decided to make a call that was out of proportion to reality. Especialy when they have it documented that the AR-15 model used has a history of multiple miss fires on the older guns. It looks like Lou is upset and it will be interesting to see what he digs up.

…I bet that if it was an old Rem 1100 or 742 or some thing similar that this never would have happened. It just happened to be a civilian model of a military gun….oh, but the military uses the 870 too… Mike you’d better not let Jr. out of the house cause that 870 might double pump… Cripes! I think I’ve got a mil spec hammer at home…I’d better be carful too…it might hit a nail twice by accident…
I realy hope this guy gets outta this mess!

This kind of thing makes me crazy. We need to do something about this or we could very well be next. Call, write, set up an online petition, set up a blog around it, and / or whatever else you can think of. Tom on GunTalk said this year we have to take a ‘No Shrug’ stand. That means standing up for our rights and not letting ANYONE take them away. We are still at a point in this country (I think) where we can make things happen while staying within the law. That won’t be the case for long if we have a wait and see attitude. Let’s move on this friends! Let’s turn public opinion in favor of this man. He’s one of the ‘good guys’.
