Michigan Baiting Ban Now Permanent
October 13, 2008
Thursday of this week, Michigan’s Natural Resource Commission voted to make the current CWD baiting ban permanent. This decision came down just after an Ingham County Circuit Court Judge ruled in favor of the DNR on the baiting ban. Hunters, farmers, and retailers banded together and filed suit recently to try to get the ban lifted, with no luck. So for now we here in Michigan must adhere to the CWD baiting ban until further notice.

fine with me, i see mors deer in the hardwoods etc. , baiting deer makes them nocturnal and besides they walk in cautious, spooky ,not natural. i dont need to bait to harvest a buck…………………………..
The problem with the baiting ban is that it was imposed by people who have no knowledge of deer management. Michigan’s deer herd is the most poorly managed in the nation. I believe that by banning baiting you could loose a whole segment of our hunting population. This divide and conquer is just what the antis want. Another aspect to look at is the kids of the nintendo generation now hunting. No deer sightings No excitement No more young hunters to carry on the tradition. At least with baiting young hunters see more deer keeping them enthused and in the woods. One deer shipped into an enclosure from another state testing pos. does not a problem make. Band together Brothers and Sisters!
Well this is just another way for the DNR to impose useless laws on us the hunters of the state of michigan. Like the tuburculoses scare where thousands of deer are killed becuase they found 1 case in the state. If the DNR was really in charge and not other government agencies or the insurance companies they would let more deer be harvested in more places by ethical michigan hunters and not marksmen form other states. Remember guys the deer of this state are owned by the people of michigan not by the state itself. They stated that so that no could sue them when they hit a deer with their car, listen up they can not have their cake and eat it too. They do not want any liability but want to regulate us hunters so that they have the power over us. Hunters of michigan should be banning together to fight the killing of our deer in non hunting ways.
I dont see how one deer on private ranch that has a disease can affect the the wild deer in the state of michigan I never had a problem baiting it brought in more deer more scrapes, more tracks to follow,I went out to brighton this past year in 2008 for bow/and rifle season only saw two deer one I almost hit with my car ,how does no baiting make deer hunting any easier. This is going to my 11 yr old almost 12 yrs old first year in the woods how are we going to past down our knowledge we have so gracefully learned from our ancestors to our children if we keep loosing our rights as americans big brother is getting to become more of a pain in the ass then a drunk uncle.lift ban this cronic waste disease has not affected the wild deer in our state at all
im a hunter that hunts state land. this baiting ban sucks, i dont claim to be the great hunter, and you wont here me running down hunters that do, or dont use bait to hunt. the only hunters i will run down is the ones that hunt inside of a fenced in area. i’d like to protest the dnr about the baiting ban. they say it’s to protect the deer herd in michigan. i thinks its a lot of bull. but i cant find any protest sites on line, i would like to join the fight to lift the baiting ban. i think the DNR has to much power over michigan hunters, and telling them what is right and wrong cause of one deer. the one that lead this fight to ban baiting does’nt even hunt. i dont have a lot of time to hunt, i work for a living. so my hours of hunting are limited. if the DNR is so worried about CWD, then why are they planting food plots of rye fields all over northern michigan, and starving the deer by clear cutting down the oak trees, and re-planting pine trees, it’s all about money for the DNR, by clear cutting the oaks, and planting pines…the pines grow faster= faster turn over for logging. pine can be harvested in as little as 20 years, where oaks takes 60 to 80 years. i think the DNR only has money on there little money minds. can someone explain why a baiting ban!? after you read a little more from me…. ok if a deer eats off of my pile of bait, and it has the CWD!?, and another deer comes along and eats off of the same pile, ” now we have two deer with CWD “right”? well whats stopping that same deer with CWD from eatting from under an apple tree, in a field of grass, or the plots the DNR are planting..and not infecting other deer. no matter what, it’s going to be passed. now the same deer goes into a farmers field of crop and starts eating, and now it’s all over the crop, when the farmer harvests his crop, and sells it for cattle feed, now it’s in the food chain. and one more hunter i dont like besides the cage hunter with money, is the hunters that think they are so great, and say, you dont need to bait to hunt “that you need to learn how to hunt like our ancestors! here’s my answer for you type. ” anytime you want to challenge me to hunt deer the old way, and on state land with hunters every 200 feet away, we will put our bows down, and find a sapling tree, and make a spear out of it, and hunt on the ground. when you hunt a chunk of state land that is two miles wide and 3 miles long in the lower part of michigan, we will see how great you really are. when a hunter comes walking by every 20 minutes or so.
